Cookie policy
Version date: 03 September 2025
1. Purpose of this Policy and its relationship with the Privacy Policy
This Cookie Policy (the "Policy") sets out the circumstances in which Check In places cookies and comparable technologies upon the devices of those who visit the website at checkingaming.com (the "Platform"), read material published upon it, or interact with electronic mail, newsletters and other communications which refer to this Policy. It also sets out the choices available to you in respect of those technologies.
This Policy is to be read together with the Check In Privacy Policy, which governs the processing of personal data generally. Where the two documents are inconsistent upon a question concerning the handling of personal data, the Privacy Policy prevails.
The Policy takes effect on the version date shown above and replaces any earlier version.
2. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file which a website places upon your device in order to record information capable of being read subsequently by that website or by a third party. Comparable technologies, among them pixels, local storage and software development kits, achieve a similar result by other means, and references in this Policy to cookies extend to them.
A cookie does not ordinarily contain information by which a person may be identified. Information which we hold about you may nevertheless be capable of being associated with data obtained through a cookie. To the extent that data obtained in this way constitutes personal data, it is processed in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
3. Classification according to duration
(a) A session cookie subsists only for so long as your browser remains open and lapses when the browser is closed.
(b) A persistent cookie remains upon your device until a fixed expiry date is reached or until you delete it, whichever occurs the earlier.
4. Purposes for which these technologies are used
Cookies are placed upon the Platform for the following purposes only:
(a) Strictly necessary purposes: enabling the Platform to function, including page navigation, the maintenance of a session, the operation of security measures and the recording of the choices you make as to cookies.
(b) Performance and analysis: establishing how the Platform is used, measuring the size and composition of the audience, identifying errors, and informing the development of content and features.
(c) Functionality: recording settings you have selected, such as language and display preferences.
(d) Security and the prevention of fraud: maintaining the security of the Platform and detecting and preventing abuse and malicious activity.
Cookies are not placed upon the Platform for the purpose of advertising directed at you, and data obtained through them is not sold.
5. Legal basis and consent
Cookies which are strictly necessary for the Platform to function are placed upon the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a secure and operative Platform, and your consent is not sought for them.
Every other cookie is placed only after you have signified your consent through the notice presented to you upon your first visit to the Platform. This reflects Article 4(3) of the Cyprus Law regulating Electronic Communications and Postal Services, Law 112(I)/2004, which gives effect in Cyprus to Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, and Article 6(1)(a) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679.
Consent may be withdrawn or varied at any time, without any consequence save that described in section 13, by means of https://checkingaming.com/cookie-policy
6. The categories in use upon the Platform
The particular cookies in use change from time to time as the Platform develops. The categories set out below describe the position in general terms; the current inventory, with the name, provider, purpose and duration of each cookie, is available at https://checkingaming.com/cookie-policy.
| Category | What it does | Consent required | Duration |
| Strictly necessary | Session identifier, load balancing, protection against automated access, content delivery, and the record of your cookie choices. These cookies cannot be disabled without rendering the Platform inoperative. | No | Session, save for the record of your cookie choices, which subsists for twelve months |
| Performance and analysis | Measurement of traffic, counting of page views, and identification of the routes taken through the Platform. | Yes | Up to thirteen months |
| Functionality | Display and language preferences, confirmation of age, and the record of policy acknowledgements. | Yes | Twelve months |
| Security and fraud prevention | Detection of abusive or automated use and protection of the integrity of the Platform. | No | Session |
7. Information obtained through these technologies
Data obtained through cookies may comprise your IP address, the type of device and browser you use, the operating system upon it, the language selected, the page from which you arrived and the page by which you departed, the times at which requests were made, an approximate location inferred from the IP address, the pages you viewed, the links you selected and your interactions with material published upon the Platform.
Where data of this description constitutes personal data, the categories, purposes, legal bases, recipients and retention periods applicable to it are those described in the Privacy Policy.
8. Duration and records of consent
The lifespan of a cookie varies according to its function. Session cookies lapse when the browser is closed. Persistent cookies subsist for the period stated in the table at section 6 and in the inventory referred to there, and we endeavour to set periods no longer than the purpose requires.
The record of the choices you have made as to cookies is retained for twelve months, both upon your device and within our own systems, in order that we may demonstrate, if called upon to do so, that consent was obtained as this Policy describes. Upon the expiry of that period your preferences will be sought afresh.
9. Technologies placed by third parties
The Platform incorporates content and code supplied by third parties. A third party of that description may place its own cookies upon your device and may process the resulting data upon its own account and under its own terms.
Where a third party is engaged by us to process data upon our instructions, it does so under a written agreement satisfying Article 28 of the GDPR. Where a third party determines the purposes of its own processing, that processing is a matter between you and it, and we invite you to consult the privacy and cookie notices it publishes.
We exercise no control over cookies placed by another party once you have left the Platform.
10. Analysis of use of the Platform
We employ Google Analytics in order to understand how the Platform is used. That service records, by means of cookies, the type of device and browser you use, an approximate geographic location and your activity upon the Platform, and transmits the resulting data to the provider, by whom it is stored.
The truncation of IP addresses is enabled upon the Platform, with the consequence that your IP address is shortened before it is processed by the provider.
You may prevent this analysis by declining the relevant category through https://checkingaming.com/cookie-policy, or by installing the opt out extension which the provider makes available for your browser.
11. Transfers outside the European Economic Area
A third party which places cookies upon the Platform may process the resulting data in a country outside the European Economic Area. Where such a transfer occurs it is effected only upon the basis of an adequacy decision of the European Commission, or under the standard contractual clauses adopted by the Commission, or under another mechanism permitted by Chapter V of the GDPR, together with such supplementary measures as the circumstances of the transfer require. Particulars of the basis applied to a given transfer are available upon request addressed to partners@checkingaming.com.
12. Managing your preferences
Your choices as to cookies which are not strictly necessary may be reviewed and altered at any time through https://checkingaming.com/cookie-policy.
Independently of that facility, the browser you use will permit you to refuse cookies generally or selectively, to be notified before a cookie is placed, and to delete cookies already stored upon your device. The manner of doing so differs between browsers and is described in the documentation each publisher provides.
13. Consequences of refusing cookies
Refusing or deleting cookies which are not strictly necessary will not deny you access to the Platform, but certain features may cease to operate as intended, and preferences you have previously selected will require selection again upon each visit.
14. Amendment of this Policy
We may amend this Policy. The version in force is the version published upon the Platform, identified by the version date appearing at the head of the document. Where an amendment is material, notice of it will be given upon the Platform in advance of its taking effect, and where the amendment concerns cookies for which consent is required, your consent will be sought afresh.
15. Contact
Questions concerning this Policy or the use of cookies upon the Platform may be addressed to partners@checkingaming.com. Matters concerning the processing of personal data, including the exercise of the rights described in the Privacy Policy, should be addressed to partners@checkingaming.com.
